“The Jeff Express”

This Mural was designed and painted for the main lobby of the newly built Meta Data Center within the River Ridge Commerce Center in Jeffersonville, IN, in partnership with Slate Art Consulting which is located in Oakland, CA. I have to send out a special thanks to the talented Hanna Smith for helping me complete this project.

Slate Art Consulting reached out to me regarding a large art installation for the main lobby of the newly constructed Meta Date Center. Meta had one main goal for the design. It needed to represent and celebrate all things Jeffersonville, IN.

The Final approved design shows a man (Thomas Jefferson) at the helm of a steam boat being pulled by a race horse over a psychedelic waterscape with the Louisville skyline in the background. The town of Jeffersonville was named after Thomas Jefferson.

Louisville has a rich history of race horses, Jeffersonville, across the Ohio River, has a rich history of steamboat building. Steam power meets horsepower.

I also incorporated elements of Big Four Station park, along the Ohio River. The overlook pergola roof and the paddle wheel sculpture “Circum”

I also included the roof of the famous Carnegie Library.
The Big Four bridge turns into a large arrow pointing towards Jeffersonville from Louisville. The race horse has a unicorn horn which is actually the steeple like sculpture from Big Four Station Park.
-I have included many elements from the album “Yellow Submarine” by the Beatles, paying homage to the world’s largest Beatles themed festival in Jeffersonville called “Abbey Road on the River”. The Beatles elements help to add to this surreal concept of a race horse pulling a steamboat.
