“The Rookwood Revival”

In collaboration with Artworks of Cincinnati, as well as Rookwood Pottery Co. I was assisted with painting this mural by a talented team of artists : TA Erika Arett, and apprentices Ibrahim Athie, Jayla Curtis, Fiona Harrell-DuChaine, Rivka Ocho, Mia Schirmer, and Myles Williams.

This mural project provides a destination and landmark on the front facade of Rookwood Pottery’s production facility. It is meant to draw viewers off the streetcar, and out of their cars, to stop and enjoy what the Findlay Market neighborhood has to offer. This contemporary design reflects the color palette of Rookwood’s decorative tiles, as well as the many elements placed within the floral pattern. The floral composition was chosen to reference Rookwood’s growth throughout its history. The birds, butterflies, and floral elements become more active in the composition as the viewer moves towards the center of the design. This attracts the viewer from either end of the mural, and adds movement and unity to the composition as a whole. Flowers painted from left to right: Daisies, Poppies, Iris, Carnations, Lillies, and Roses.
